Michael Strugl is the new Chairman of the APG Supervisory Board

Michael Strugl succeeds Peter Kollmann as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Austrian Power Grid AG (APG).

Effective September 1, 2026, Michael Strugl was unanimously elected Chairman of the APG Supervisory Board. He succeeds Peter Kollmann, who is moving to Bank of America. “I am very much looking forward to my new role, especially since APG, as the operator of Austria’s transmission grid, is a key enabler of the energy transition. Decarbonizing our planet is one of the most important challenges of the coming decades. As Chairman of the APG Supervisory Board, I want to help shape this transformation. I am very much looking forward to it,” said Strugl. He has been CEO of VERBUND AG since 2021 and has been a member of the APG Supervisory Board since 2019.

“This transition stands for both continuity and new perspectives. With Michael Strugl as Chairman of the Supervisory Board—and with his proven expertise and many years of experience on the APG Supervisory Board—continuity is ensured in advancing the energy transition, expanding the grid infrastructure, and safeguarding a reliable and secure electricity supply. We would like to thank Peter Kollmann for his valuable contributions and wish him all the best for the future. At the same time, we look forward to continuing our close and trusting cooperation with the newly constituted Supervisory Board, which will make an important contribution to shaping Austria’s energy future together,” said APG Executive Board members Gerhard Christiner (CTO & Spokesperson of the Executive Board) and Marcus Karger (CFO).

As an independent transmission system operator, Austrian Power Grid (APG) is responsible for ensuring a secure electricity supply in Austria. With our high-performance, digital electricity infrastructure and the application of state-of-technologies, we integrate renewable energy sources and thereby reduce dependence on imports; we serve as a platform for the electricity market; we provide access to affordable electricity; and we lay the foundation for a location that is secure in its energy supply and sustainable for both business and living. The APG grid spans approximately 3,500 km, which the company operates, maintains, and continuously adapts to the growing demands of the electrification of society, the economy, and industry with a team of around 1,000 specialists. The control center in Vienna remotely operates the majority of the 67 substations distributed throughout Austria. In 2025, thanks to our dedicated employees, supply reliability remained at 99.99 percent, placing us among the world’s leaders. Our investments totaling 680 million euros in 2026 (2025: 595 million, 2024: 440 million, 2023: 490 million euros) serve as an economic driver and a key building block for achieving Austria’s energy goals. In total, APG will invest approximately 9 billion euros in grid expansion and modernization by 2035.
