Mürztal substation

Increasing demand for electricity in the industrial Mürztal valley region (keyword: electricity-based steel production) and in the lower Murtal valley (Bruck a.d. Mur area) as well as planned wind power projects require a strong infrastructure: with the planned 50-million euro 220/110 kV substation project, we are creating the necessary transmission capacities and, above all, increasing the quality of supply by supporting the grid of Energie Steiermark.

In planning

Mürztal substation

The Mürztal substation serves as a 220/110kV interface between APG and Energienetze Steiermark. To ensure a reliable power supply, the existing 220kV double-circuit line Hessenberg - Ternitz is to be integrated into a new 220kV system and a 220/110kV transformer with a capacity of 300 MVA is to be installed in the course of the initial expansion stage.

The grid support in the upper Mürztal valley was previously included in the grid development plan under the designations Langenwang and Hadersdorf. Grid support for Energie Netze is necessary on the one hand due to the expected increasing feed-in of wind power in this region and on the other hand to maintain voltage quality (large consumers - local steel industry - electric arc furnaces). Augmenting the short-circuit capacity in this grid section will therefore lead to a significant reduction in the effects of system perturbations and contribute significantly to improving the quality of supply. The construction of the Mürztal substation, will ensure that the further increase in demand in the industrial region of the Mürztal valley, but also the lower Murtal valley (Bruck a.d. Mur area) can be covered in the long term.
