Bidding zones form the backbone of commercial electricity trading in the European energy market. The existing configuration of bidding zones is regularly evaluated. Possible alternatives are analysed in terms of grid security, macroeconomic efficiency and stability and then incorporated into a European decision-making process. This ensures that the market design supports the transition of the energy system to renewable generation in the best possible way. By making the Vamos platform available to other European TSOs, APG also provides the necessary and complex IT infrastructure for the process.
