Extension of grid reserve 2025+

A certain grid reserve is currently necessary in Austria to have flexible power plants available at any time to manage grid bottlenecks. These grid reserve plants thus are a central element of the Austrian grid and supply security, especially with regard to the highly volatile feed-in volumes from renewable energies (in particular wind and PV facilities) and electricity imports from abroad. Experts at APG are working on extending the mechanism, which is subject to EU State Aid Laws and thus has to be approved by the European Commission, to make sure that the transition to a decarbonized electricity system can be achieved.
