Klaus Substation

Due to the rising electricity consumption and the increasing integration of renewable energy into the existing grid, Netz OÖ's distribution grid requires support from APG. The construction of the new substation in Klaus (Upper Austria) will ensure that local supply tasks can be fulfilled and the security of supply guaranteed also in the future. It will also promote the energy transition in the region. The investment will total around 31 million euros.

In progress

We secure the electricity supply in the district of Kirchdorf, thereby strengthening the business location and facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources.

Due to the power-intensive grid customers in the region, increases in the grid load in the Klaus, Steyrling, and Molln area, as well as the growing decentralized electricity generation, the 30 kV distribution grid of Netz OÖ urgently requires an upgrade of the existing grid support at the Klaus substation.

This will enable Netz OÖ to fulfill local supply tasks and thus guarantee the security of supply. The Klaus substation covers the demand of the regions in and around Klaus, Steyrling, and Molln, as well as the ski resorts of Hinterstoder and Windischgarsten. In addition, the back-up supply of the Pyhrn substation can be managed and operational improvements can be achieved for 30 kV switchovers.

Planned measures:

  • Replacement & expansion of existing infrastructure to secure the region's electricity supply
  • Construction of a 220 kV switchgear
  • Integration of the existing 220 kV power line between the APG substations Pyhrn and Ernsthofen (Lower Austria)
