# Austrian Power Giants
Combining modern high-voltage infrastructure with nature-oriented design to strengthen regional business and tourism.
Innovation & design for greater acceptance of grid expansion
Traditional pylon designs haven't generated the desired level of public acceptance for new power grid projects.
The Austrian Power Giants initiative reimagines electricity pylons as symbols of harmony between technology and nature.
Each pylon design integrates artistic and natural elements, taking the form of iconic animals that represent Austria’s nine federal states.
This is a design concept and no concrete implementation is currently planned.
For example, the stork symbolizes Burgenland, where these birds return each year, while the stag embodies Lower Austria, reflecting the region’s forested Alpine foothills.
Two Austrian Power Giants — one in the shape of a stork and the other of a stag — were pre-tested statically and electrotechnically to verify their technical feasibility.
This nature-inspired approach aims to make electricity infrastructure more relatable and accepted by the public. By transforming functional structures into regional landmarks, the Austrian Power Giants seek to promote sustainable infrastructure, strengthen local identity, and enhance business and tourism potentials across the country.
RedDot Design Award
The Austrian Power Giants concept has also met with approval in the international design community: A distinguished international jury honored the project in Singapore with the Red Dot Award 2025 for Concept Design in the Electrification and Decarbonization category.
Miniature models of the Austrian Power Giants will be exhibited at the Red Dot Design Museum in Singapore until October 2026, allowing visitors to experience the innovative fusion of design, technology, and nature up close.
