Virtual power plant

A power plant is called “virtual” not because it generates no electricity, but because it has more than one location. A virtual power plant is a cluster of various types of power generating modules such as solar installations, (small) hydropower plants, wind power plants, cogeneration units and biogas plants brought together to form a network that can reliably supply electrical energy and thus replace the output of large power plants that is independent of supply. Commonly used terms such as “combined cycle power plant”, “swarm power plant”, “DEA cluster” and the buzzword “virtual” refer to both visions of the future power supply as well as already existing business models.
